Dorset For Singing was founded in 2008 by musician and school teacher Ed Hintze, and local resident Michael Anders. Their aim was to provide a fun environment for informal group singing aimed at anyone aged 14 and above. The choir currently has around 100 members of all ages andabilities.
The Choir offers enjoyable weekly rehearsals, where a wide range of well-known songs are sung, as well as original compositions. Musical Director Ed Hintze also provides advice and exercises on developing the voice, using his own experiences learnt during his training from vocal coaches David and Carrie Grant.
Dorset for Singing has grown into one of the largest community choirs in Dorset, and its community spirit extends to raising money for local charities through their concerts. The concerts also provide an opportunity for members to gain confidence in singing through solo and small group performances. So far our choir has raised over £4500 for various charities.
Rehearsals are held on Thursdays during term time at All Saints School,Weymouth. Sessions start with at 6:45pm, with a 15 minute warm-up, and rehearsals finish at 8pm. A comment that we regularly hear is that it helps people relax after a busy day, and gives them an opportunity to meet new friends. There are always lots of laughs duringr ehearsals. There are no auditions to join and you don't need to read music, just enthusiasm and a love of singing!
